Private Hell : Episode 3

It wasn't until two days later before fears returned. Tamara was in the kitchen washing the used plates as she ached from the pains that habited her body, but more especially, the sharp pain that played across her hearts. She knew things would never be the same and she had no idea what to do. She had made up her mind not to say anything, but she knew it would only be a matter of time before he knew. Well, until then, she would pretend like everything is okay. She was still washing when a loud knock on the door jolted her out of her thoughts.

Slowly, she wiped her hands dry, wondering who was at the door. She quickly stole a look at the wall clock, 8:30am.
Tamara froze on her feet as she opened the door. Her mouth slowly opened as she set her eyes on him.
Slowly and gently, she took her steps backwards, allowing him gain access into the house.
Segun bowed his head in shame.
A thousand and one unexplainable emotions raced her body as she stared him. To cry or to scream, she was confused.
She could only shake her head as moments quickly passed.
Segun went on his kneels as he began to sob quietly.
A tear escaped her eye cage as she saw the bunch of rose flowers in Segun's hand. He knew she was a sucker for rose flowers, but the situation at hand, was really bigger than any ornamental gifts.
"I am sorry", Segun managed to say amidst the sobs.

Tamara remained speechless. Her mind was trying to figure out how she will break the news to him. She knew it would hurt him, and she was scared of how he would react.
"Baby, I am so sorry", Segun pleaded.
Maybe he was truly sorry, thought Tamara, but what disturbed her was the fear of him finding out. Anxiety wrapped it's claws around her firmly, and in a split second, the atmosphere became tensed.
This is beyond the normal, Segun thought, as he felt the tensed atmosphere. He searched her face for clues, but the only thing he saw was stark fear.
"Baby, what is the matter?" he inquired.
Tamara remained quiet as she sat on the sofa in front him. Segun crawled towards her as placed his hands on her knees.

"Baby, what is the matter?"

Tears flowed freely down her face as she looked at him. There was no point trying to hide it, sooner than later, the truth was still going to come out. She had better just say it anyway.
"Hmm", she exhaled deeply. "I lost the baby."
It was like many hands lurched at Segun's chest, groping heart, squeezing the life out of him. Unconsciously, his hands left her knees as he gasped for air silently. Segun sat on the floor as a dark cloud engulfed his thoughts. His world is over, he thought, there was no point living again. The tears began to flow freely, and in a minute, he began to wail uncontrollably.
Tamara, still in pains, went on her knees, trying to console him. Segun kept on crying. Sheknew how much he wanted this child, how long they waited. 7 long years of waiting, and now it was gone just because of one moment of madness. She knew this would break him, and her fear was how he would react afterwards.
"Baby I am so sorry", Segun said, still crying, "I never meant for this happen."
"I know. It is okay."
"No it is one okay. Everything is over."
"Everything is not over", Tamara countered. "God can still give us another one."
"Really?" Segun inquired, looking at her. "So we have to wait for another seven years before He gives us another one?"
"Don't talk like that. God will help us."
Segun continued his sobbing as he laid head on her arms. He was going to make things right in the way he can.

The couple sat on the cold floor as the day quickly rolled for the night to take over. Segun had resolved to be the best he could be, and Tamara could only pray that the aftermath would be less painful.
Over the next couple of days, Segun became the best husband he could be. He attended to Tamara's needs like his life depended on it. Tamara felt a sense of peace as she thought, maybe, just maybe, the eye of the storm was pass. They could live a better life now, but she was sad that it had to come at a cost. Well,  she couldn't hoped for a better life, she thought. Life just smiled. It was giving her a Greek gift.
