12 Ways to Maintain a Healthy Kidney

The kidneys are vital organs which are needed to maintain healthy living. Currently, about 1 new case of kidney failure is seen daily in any outpatient clinic in Nigeria with some clinics seeing more than 3 new cases every day. Living with chronic kidney diseases creates a big financial burden on patients because of the need a minimum of 3 sessions of hemodialysis daily, drugs administered during each session, lifestyle modification, change in diet and the cost and burden of having a kidney transplant. Many patients have died of kidney disease and have been burdens to care givers and the society but this can be avoided by living a healthy life and by avoiding certain lifestyles that damages the kidneys.

In this article, we are going to look at 12 Ways to Maintain a Healthy Kidney.

1. Blood pressure control: Uncontrolled hypertension is said to be among the leading cause of kidney failure. Hypertension is an elevation in blood pressure with values greater than 140 mmHg and 90 mmHg for systolic and diastolic pressures respectively. Increase in blood targets and destroys the kidneys over time leading to an irreversible kidney damage that will

DAMNED Episode :5

Nelson sat up and looked straight at his father who already seemed to be feeling pleased with himself, then he glanced at Bruno who had been absolutely silent since they arrived and got exactly what he needed, a supportive nod.
“Sir, Aisha is pregnant for me and I am ready to do all I can to take care of her and the child”. Nelson could barely contain the relief that he felt after he spoke with tears gathering in his eyes. Pastor Mbaka on the other hand had gone pale in the face. His grey hair suddenly became very pronounced and his breathing seemed to be encountering some difficulty. His face was stuck in a permanent expression of panic. After some seconds in this state, he calmly stood up and walked out. His wife followed closely behind cursing the day she conceived Nelson at under her breath. Aisha’s father just beamed at Nelson and said “Go get your wife my son”.
Nelson embraced Bruno who was still in shock from what had just happened and went straight into Aisha’s room.
The first thing he noticed when he entered was that the room was absolutely quiet, he

Mummy, don't do...", she cut him short again, this time with a perfectly delivered slap to his left cheek. It was then that Pastor Mbaka finally spoke, his tone barely audible to Nelson, both from the anguish in the voice and the resonance of the slap.
" Nelson why? Why have you decided to disgrace your mother and I like this? We have shown you love and tried to bring you up in the way of the Lord but all you have brought to this house is a bastard, a demon. You ingrate!" His last words came out in a vicious tone of anger that made Nelson retreat. He kept his eyes to the floor and tried to salvage the situation.
"Daddy, I only did it once, and she's the only girl, I swear", the absolute futility of his words hit him immediately he finished speaking them and apparently, it hit his father too because he wiped his eyes, stood up and started approaching Nelson menacingly.
"Now listen young man, I have been a pastor for almost two decades. Even before you were born. And the church plans to ordain me a reverend this year. I will not let you ruin all that I've worked for. I don't care what happened between the both of you, you are not responsible for that pregnancy. Can you hear me? Aisha is a known whore in school and you're not the only boy she's had sex with. You used protection and there is no way the child could be yours. It is either what I just said is true or you cease to be a son of this house, so you better know what

DAMNED Episode :3

Nelson headed straight to Bruno's from the bar and filled him in completely on the events of the night leaving  no detail out. Bruno was positively ecstatic and was even more excited when he learned that no protection was used. Apparently, Bruno had done it only once and had thoroughly enjoyed it. But what truly soothed Nelson was that Bruno's partner had not gotten pregnant. She took some gin immediately after the intercourse too.
Despite his best efforts to discard thoughts of Aisha getting pregnant, the first couple of weeks were filled with paranoia and discomfort for Nelson. Every time his father called his name, he felt like he was going to receive the news of his impending fatherhood, but it never was that. And to make matters worse, Aisha did not speak a word to him neither via phone calls nor in person after the night at the bar. She ignored all of his texts and returned none of

DAMNED :Episode 2

Nelson was surprised by how fascinated he was by every detail about her and by the fact that he was just having his first conversation with her. However, their unplanned date was cut short by the drunk host's announcement that all of Catherine's friends join her for photographs. Immediately Aisha left, Bruno crashed into her former position, sizing her up as she walked away.
"Hope you've smashed that Aisha?” He asked casually, with a devious smile forming across his face. Nelson, being unsure of what the slang meant and unable to imagine that Bruno would think him anything but a virgin, feigned cluelessness.
"What do you mean?". He replied wearing his most innocent face.
"OK, let me use your daddy's words, have you lay with the maiden?" Bruno retried, chuckling this time.
From experience, Nelson knew virginity wasn't exactly the most priced possession among the boys of his school, so he was sceptical about what to tell the most popular one of them. "No, not yet. Not with any girl, actually."
"You're joking, right?". Bruno had a facial expression like Nelson had just committed the worst crime known. Nelson was already regretting his decision, he knew there was only one way to make up.
"I'm going to do it tonight". He said it with absolute conviction, having processed the requirements and risks of his proposed escapade in seconds.
Bruno's expression immediately changed to one of concern. "No, don't do that. You don't have

DAMNED : Episode 1

As hard as Nelson tried, he just could not concentrate in class. The same numbers he used to find very easy to work with now looked like ancient Egyptian codes to him. His mind was in no state to do maths or any other thing but worry. He involuntarily continued pulling at his eyebrows as he did under pressure, hoping not to draw blood. Although Bruno had told him that everything would be fine, he still could not keep himself in check, and if there was one person that Nelson trusted with his life, it was Bruno. Ever since the day Bruno had stood up for him at the soccer field, he had begun earning Nelson's love, respect and trust. Bruno's actual name was Okafor Kingsley, but no one as good looking and popular as him could exist without a Nickname in the school. He had it all; the best clothes, the best shoes, photos with celebrities, a driver's license and surprisingly, good grades, he was basically what every boy in the school hoped to become.
Nelson on the other hand, was the son of a very modest clergyman, Pastor Mbaka and

BACTERIAL VAGINOSIS (BV)

Bacterial vaginosis (BV) is an abnormal vaginal condition that is characterized by a whitish-grey vaginal discharge with unpleasant smell. The term bacterial vaginosis  is used to refer to the intricate changes of vaginal bacterial flora (i.e bacteria inhabiting the vagina) due to loss of lacto-bacilli, an increase in vaginal PH and an increase in anaerobic and aerobic bacteria. Bacterial vaginosis as the name suggests is caused by bacteria. BV is also know as vaginal bacteriosis.

SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS

The main symptom of BV is a vaginal discharge. BV is one of the most common causes of vaginal discharge in women of child bearing age. The discharge is often white-grey in colour and often has a fishy smell.
The smell may be more noticeable during sex. The discharge does not usually cause itching or sore around the vagina and vulva.

CAUSES

Normally, there are a lot of good bacteria and few harmful bacteria in the vagina. The good types help control the growth of the harmful types. Bacterial vaginosis (BV) occurs when these harmful bacteria out grows the good bacterial. Although the bacteria is of low virulence, It causes discomfort when infection co-exist with more virulent organisms. The risk of getting bacterial vaginosis is higher if you have more than one sex partner or have a new sex partner, douche or smoke.

RISKS

➢ BV and pregnancy;
If you have untreated BV during pregnancy, you have a slightly increased risk of developing some complications of pregnancy. These include:

1. Bananas

Banana is very rich in potassium, and is considered the nature's most powerful blood-pressure-lowering medicine.
