Watching Away Your Time?

Television is now the second most popular mass media channels in the world, and its growth is seen all over the world every day. Television which is referred in the short form as T V, is a source of entertainment, a channel for receiving information. It's also an instrument
that can teach and inform the public.   However, recent  study conducted at the Harvard School of Public Health indicates that watching too much television can significantly increase the risk of developing obesity and type 2 diabetes. Not surprisingly, another study carried out at the University of Rhode Island found that prolonged television watching decreases viewers’ sense of self ability in maintaining personal health.
The time we spend in front of the TV is alarming. If we watch the Television four hours daily, by age sixty we would have spent ten years of our lives in front of the screen. Watching too much of
TV, can hinder our ability to think.
People who spend hours watching television shows run the risk of suffering a fatal pulmonary embolism, according to a major new study of more than 86,000 people tracked over 18 years.

Pulmonary embolism is a blockage in the artery that carries blood from the heart to the lungs, and is usually caused by a blood clot formed in a vein in the leg. Up to 60,000 people die as a result of pulmonary embolism each year in Britain.
It's amazing how much we can sit in front of the TV for 4 hours or more straight without been tired or bored but easily tired  when receiving 2 hours lecture, in church or religious gatherings or reading books.
Don't get me wrong, watching TV is cool and fun especially with pop corns and ice cream and you are stretched out on the couch with your favourite TV show been aired; but there is a need to re evaluate all the pros and the cons for balance. It should not take up all your time honey. Watching TV should not become an addiction. You need to draw the Line as to when Television is your " Foe or Friend".

To enable you do this, below are helpful tips :

» Get  In Control -  You need to be in control of your television, not the other way round. Think of your future and all what you can achieve with the time you spend sitting in front of the TV. TURN IT  OFF, leave the room  do something more creative and resourceful.

»  plan What You Watch -  Don't just sit in front of the TV looking for what to watch. Make a list of the shows for the day you want to watch, once it's over Turn Off the TV.

» Analyse How You Watch.

» Reduce Your Viewing Time -  learning to do with out TV for the day might initially feel like you are missing out on something big and might be extremely difficult. Don't rush it, take it a step at a time.

» Attend to chores that have been neglected. Take a good look around you and attend to unfinished or prospective household duties that may need to be taken care of. This can include anything from fixing a leaking tap to fixing up the garden.

»  Hang out with your friends. Are there any friends you have not met for a while? Maybe it’s time to catch-up with them.

» Work on your goals.
Even if it’s just 30 minutes a day, you’ll be surprised at how much progress you’ll make in a short span.
