Like we all parent have a strong desire for safe schools, workplace safety and keeping our children safe and protected. In the early school year, your child’s immunity is put to the test. All it takes is a single child to bring a virus to school for the spread to begin.
For most parents sending your child to school is anxiety whether it’s their first time or not. some may even consider it a necessary evil.
It should come as no surprise that success or failure at school starts at home. Studies have
linked poor When one thinks about all the spectrum of things your child can pick up in school, from foul languages to the diseases spreading what a horror!

Well here are some tips that can help your child and by extension, you cope better in the school environment.
1. Good nutrition: this is one of the basic safety to ensure children health matters in school, these constitute natural fighters in our system and serves as aids to our body’s immunity. Breakfast is an important thing all parent must have in mind, breakfast helps to keep the mind alert as well as the body. A balanced diet would roughly include 50% carbohydrate, 25% protein and 25% minerals, fats and vitamins. Note that children require high levels of protein necessary for the rapid growth of body tissue including brain tissue. Good food with sleep equals better chance of fighting infections.

2. Habits: Teaching your children good habits are as much as we wish we had eyes planted on the walls of our children’s classroom to monitor all they do, that isn’t possible. However, what they would do
when we aren’t there is habits we instill in them from home. They include things such as;
•Hand washing. Recent studies show that 90% of communicable diseases can be prevented this way. Teach them to wash hand before and after each meal, after each toilet visit and then some.
•Covering mouth and nose when sneezing or coughing.
•Not sharing of items that especially touch the mouth such as water bottles or food.
•Keep hands out of mouth as well as pens and pencils.

3. Immunization: this is the process whereby a person is made immune or resistant to an infectious disease, typically by the administration of a vaccine. This vaccine stimulates the body’s own immune system to protect the person against subsequent infection. In Nigeria, the national program on immunization is a schedule designed to immunize the Nigerian child.At birth -HepatitisB, OPV, BCG 6week -OPV,pentavalent,optional(PCV, rotavirus1) 10weeks -OPV,Pentavalent, optional(PCV 14weeks – OPV,Pentavalent, optional(PCV, rotavirus2) 9months -Yellow fever, Vitamin A. Measles 15-18months -MMR,OPV, optional(Chicken pox) 24months -Meningitis,Typhoid feverOPV- oral polio vaccine. Pentavalent vaccine includes- diphtheria, pertussis, tetanus, hepatitis B, heamophilus influenza type b.

MMR- mumps, measles and rubella.
But being a wiser parent is going the extra mile and getting your child the booster shots….these are extra administration of vaccines after an initial shot. It is
intended to increase immunity against that antigen back to protective levels after memory against that antigen has declined through time. Consult your physician for
more details on this.
