Ondo State Governor, Akeredolu donates $6.5m (N2.27bn) to Fayemi for Ekiti Election
Despite denial that he did not promise to fund the governorship aspiration of Dr. Kayode Fayemi with two months allocation of his
State, the Ondo State Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu has donated a sum of
N2.27 billion into Fayemi’s campaign fund, source in the known
revealed to Premium Reporters.
Dr. Fayemi is the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the
July 14 governorship election in Ekiti State.
The $6.5 million (about N2.27bn), which was termed “First Commitment”
was allegedly paid into Fayemi’s bank account in Accra, Ghana last week Friday.
The source disclosed that the cash was moved from the Ghana bank
account of a friend of Governor Akeredolu’s wife, popularly known in
the Ondo State Government circle as “Money Man” to Fayemi’s account in
ARB Apex Bank Limited, located on No. 5, 9th Road, Gamel Abdul Nasser
Avenue, South Ridge, Accra.
“Aketi (Governor Akeredolu) is not leaving anything to chance on this
Ekiti election. He wants to use it to prove a point to Asiwaju Bola
Tinubu that without him, he became governor and that he is capable of
installing others as governors too.
“Even in Osun State, someone is already being sponsored to slug it out
with Asiwaju’s anointed candidate.
“A budget of N5 billion has been made as the governor’s support for
Fayemi and with over N2.2 billion already delivered, it is expected
that another N2.8 billion will be made available in the last week of
this month,” the source said.
It should be recalled that Fayemi reportedly presented a budget of N25
billion to President Muhammadu Buhari, through his Chief of Staff,
Abba Kyari. About N5 billion was released to him for the primary
election, out of which he spent a little above N2 billion and bought a
N1.2 billion mansion in Ikeja GRA, Lagos.
